Bodies in space

Romily Alice Walden
May 25 – Jun 20, 2018

‘Bodies in Space’ presents new works by artist Romily Alice Walden. Fusing neon sculpture with Arduino coding, the exhibition seeks to explore perceptions of gendered bodies in the Post-Internet age. Taken from the Karen Archey essay of the same name, the title alludes to the “emancipation of our identities and sexual lives from the body and “meatspace” interaction” (Archey, 2004, p. 2). Thirteen years after this piece was written, the exhibition asks us to examine the limitations of this emancipation and explore ways in which the internet functions as both a dystopic and utopic potential.
