Between War and Sea is an experimental documentary film
with found footage material. It consists mainly of interviews
with three different people. Two of them talk about what
what they experienced during their flight to Europe, from Turkey to
Greece on the death boat. The third
person reports what they experienced during their arrest and torture in
and torture in Syria.

In my art, I deal intermedially with the themes
themes Between War and Sea. Between war and sea,
a huge space opens up for me, flooded with: death
and loss, home and homesickness, identity and integration,
flight and rubber dinghies, wishes and reality. The
dealing with the instrumentalization of media
plays an important role in my art. Here
found footage that I research and edit online,
an important part of my work. To do this, I first remove the
the found video material from its local and temporal
temporal context, so that it is not recognizable whether it was shot in 2011
or 2013, in Syria or in Iraq. From
shots remain from war videos, which I show in excerpts and
embedded in color. Image sequences that I have fixed and abstracted
image sequences, do not show the fighting sons or the conflict
conflict situations or for whom or against whom they fought.
have fought. What can be seen is the grief, in a never-ending
moment of individual mothers, who in their group
collectively for the suffering and trauma of war and terror.
